Non-Partisan Political Activism
Midlothian Friends Meeting
Minute Concerning Non-Partisan Political Activism
A recent court decision now allows religious bodies to endorse political candidates and take part in political party activities without losing their tax-exempt status.
This ruling does not change Midlothian Friends Meeting’s long-standing practice of avoiding political party advocacy within our:
- Meetings for worship,
- Announcements at rise of Meeting and in the Quaker Town Crier, or
- Committee deliberations.
Our tax-exempt status has never been a primary motive for this practice.
We believe there is that of God in everyone. Reflecting Quaker Testimonies, our non-partisan political activism arises from a deep concern for the welfare of all and our hope for a world where everyone enjoys peace, justice, and opportunities for joy. We strive to speak up for all our neighbors when needed. Our foundation is love for one another, no exceptions!
Other Quaker organizations produced the following videos. The speakers do not necessarily reflect the views of Midlothian Friends Meeting’s members. They are provided as food for thought as you consider what it means to engage in Non-Partisan Political Activism.
